“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 NIV

As we are ending 2019 and entering 2020 I thought that it would be important to reflect on the people in our lives and their place in our “heart home”. When I first started counseling my counselor told me to think of my heart as my home and she explained to me that I allow too many people in my heart…. this is still true to this day 😩

She explained to me that when I love, I love deep and hard… putting people on a pedestal thinking that they will never hurt me… and when they do hurt me I am devastated because of my high expectations for them… Recently I had to re-evaluate my “heart home” and rearrange some people in it… a few people had to leave the living room and go to the porch, and others got promoted to the hallway.

When thinking of your heart as your home remember….

… you have your street people… those are your hi & bye people…

My Dream Home

… you have your yard people… those are people from your past whom you have out grown but still have love for…

… you have your porch people… those are associates and social media friends

… you have your living room people… those are associates that you trust with some personal information

… you have your dining room people… those are your coworkers, church family, etc…

… you have your hallway people… those are people you let into your “mess” just a little while still being reserved…

… you have your bedroom people… well I think that’s self explanatory 👀🤷🏽‍♀️🙊🙉🙈….

… And then you have your kitchen people ❤️ 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾… the kitchen is the heart of any home… that’s where all of the laughter, love, tears, and joy between loved ones are shared…. there should only be a FEW people in your kitchen… these people are the people who knows where your demons play and they still love you anyway…

Now everyone can be moved around as you get to know them… someone whom you thought was a kitchen person might need to be moved to the living room and that’s ok… listen, I live by this… I have learned to put people in their rightful place in my “heart home” and deal with them accordingly.

As we enter 2020 let’s start the year off with people in their rightful places in our heart homes so that 2020 can be amazing.

You’ve helped me put all in perspective. As I was reading I could’ve visualize and put a name on each person in their perspective places.
